Have you ever encountered the phenomenon of "eating" belts? Why does the pulley "eat" the belt?

With the development of the industrial field, the use of belt pulleys is becoming more and more widespread. With the popularization of belt pulley applications, many people will have various questions. Today, I will focus on explaining why the belt pulley "eats" the belt. In the use of mechanical equipment, it is inevitable that the temperature of the belt pulley will be too high during transmission. If the temperature is too high, the phenomenon commonly known as "eat" the belt may occur. So what causes this phenomenon? The following reasons are analyzed. For reference.

The first reason is that the belt type used does not match the belt pulley type used. The belt model corresponding to the pulley model is generally A-type, SPA-type, and XPA-type belts. The corresponding pulley model is SPA-type pulley. Type B, SPB, and XPB belts correspond to SPB type pulleys, and so on. It should be noted that the biggest difference between the XPA belt and the A and SPA belts is that the belts starting with X are toothed, so that the heat dissipation performance is better and it is more suitable for high-speed operation.

The second reason is that the size of the pulley cannot meet the torque of the machine, and the load is heavy. The belt is under excessive force and slips.

The third reason is that the transmission of a set of pulleys is not on the same horizontal line, which will affect the transmission of the pulleys.

The above is the analysis of several possibilities for the belt pulley to "eat" the belt. I hope it will be helpful to you.
