Do you know the seven application fields of spiral bevel gears?
Similar to cylindrical gears-the role of bevel gears is mainly used to reduce speed, increase torque, and transmit motion between two parallel shafts or interleaved shafts. This physical characteristic of bevel gears allows the input and output directions of the shaft to be at any angle . In view of the excellent physical properties of bevel gears, it is widely used in industrial gearboxes, vehicles, aircraft and other fields.
1. Car
Automobiles generally use rear-wheel drive in power, which is driven by a manual or automatic transmission through a longitudinally installed engine. The power transmitted by the drive shaft drives the rotation of the rear wheel through the offset of the pinion shaft relative to the bevel gear (hypoid gear). 80% of the spiral bevel gears in passenger cars use ground gears, and the other 20% use ground gears. If all wheels of a car are driving wheels, then each car will be able to obtain the maximum traction, that is, an all-wheel drive car.
2. Railway drive
A railway engine powered by an electric motor or a diesel engine is preferably arranged longitudinally, and its rotation and torque are transmitted to the axle through a drive shaft and a bevel gear transmission. The bevel gear set generally uses hot post-grinding teeth.
3. Construction machinery
In construction machinery, the power system generally adopts hydraulic control, and the bevel gear is generally only used to drive the auxiliary device. According to its manufacturing process, it can be milling or grinding, without any hard processing after heat treatment.
4. Aviation
Both jets and helicopters use bevel gear sets. The auxiliary motion of the jet is powered by the main shaft and is driven by the bevel gear sets. The helicopter transmission is the most complicated bevel gear system. It uses multiple sets of hypoid gears, and the shaft angles of the bevel gear sets are generally less than 90 degrees. All aerospace power transmission gears need to be heat-treated and then ground and tooth roots are ground.
5. Industrial gearbox
Industrial gearboxes containing bevel gears are used in many different industries and are mainly used to change the speed and change the transmission direction. The ring gears of industrial gearboxes vary in diameter from less than 50mm to 2000mm, and are generally scraped or ground after heat treatment.
6. Marine transmission
Stern drive (usually called "outboard engine") requires the installation of two helical gears between the engine and the propeller. Ocean-going vessels with a central built-in engine use bevel gears to drive the propeller shaft to continuously change its angle along the hull to the stern.
Propellers have been used in marine exploration platforms for decades, such as platforms used to extract crude oil, icebreakers, and so on. On the four corners of these platforms, a propeller is installed, and the diameter of the ring gear on the propeller is between 600 mm and 2500 mm. About 90% of ship propulsion bevel gears are processed by milling, and about 10% are processed by hard surface grinding.
7. Other special applications
It is used in coal, oil drilling, ground mining of ore, and equipment for crushing and stone grinding.
